Water treadmill for dogs - Wrocław and surrounding area
The water treadmill is one of the most effective tools in modern rehabilitation. Thanks to water buoyancy the dog exercises offloaded - with less pain and lower risk of overload - while intensively engaging the muscles. At the Multivet Active centre near Wrocław we run hydrotherapy sessions tailored to each patient’s needs.

How does the water treadmill work?
The dog walks on a belt inside a chamber filled with warm water. We set the water level, belt speed and training time individually. Water acts as natural "offloading" - the higher the level, the less pressure on the joints and, at the same time, the greater the resistance for the working muscles.
Warm water additionally relaxes the tissues and improves exercise comfort. This safe environment lets the patient return to movement earlier and in a controlled way.

What does a water-treadmill session look like?
We begin the session by calmly introducing the dog to the glass chamber and gradually filling it with warm water so the pet gets used to the surroundings. We then start the belt and match the pace to the patient’s ability. The dog is secured and under the physiotherapist’s care the whole time, while we observe its gait, limb positioning and responses.
We increase the time and intensity of training gradually, as the dog progresses. We set the number of sessions individually - it depends on the type of problem, the dog’s condition and the goal of rehabilitation. We price the therapy after assessing the patient, so it is best to get in touch with the centre to learn the details. You will find more practical information in our hydrotherapy guide and on the animal rehabilitation.

Frequently asked questions about the water treadmill
Does my dog need to know how to swim?
No. The dog walks on a belt at the bottom of the chamber and we set the water level individually. Throughout the session the animal is secured and under the physiotherapist’s care.
How long does a hydrotherapy session last?
A single session is usually a few to a dozen or so minutes of actual training, preceded by a warm-up and letting the dog get used to the chamber. We gradually extend the time as the dog progresses.
How many sessions are needed to see results?
It depends on the problem and the goal of therapy. We usually work in a cycle of regular sessions and adjust the plan based on the patient’s progress during follow-up visits.
Is the water treadmill safe for older dogs?
Yes. The offloading in water makes hydrotherapy gentle on the joints, which is why we often use it for seniors and patients with degenerative joint disease.
How should I prepare my dog for the visit?
Do not feed your dog just before the session and bring a towel. If the dog has had surgery, bring the medical records. Our team takes care of the rest.
What owners say
After cruciate ligament surgery our labrador would not put weight on the leg. Water treadmill sessions spread over several weeks brought his normal walks back.
I was afraid our cat would not tolerate any therapy. He was handled calmly, without force and at his own pace - after a course of treatments he stopped guarding the leg.
Our dog has hip dysplasia. Regular physiotherapy and the home exercises we were shown and given in writing clearly improved her mobility.
